Six different tariff reduction methods have been applied to measure the tariff reduction rates. Tariff reduction rates from the method applied in the Uruguay Round are compared with outcomes from the other methods. A Swiss formula with a ceiling tariff rate 25% gives rise to the deepest cut. However, this formula brings shallow cut of tariffs compared with the Uruguay Round formula for some countries including the U.S., Australia and Chile. A Swiss formula with a ceiling tariff rate of 100% makes eight out of ten countries better off. A Swiss formula will be disastrous only for Korea and Japan.
