This paper`s aim is to find out the characteristics of the rice farming ofthe Jeonra-do Neungju area in the early 19th century. We can consult the'Chinongpyeon' section of the "Jukgyopyeonram", one of the regional agriculturalmanuals, compiled by Han, Seok-Hyo in A.D. 1849. The characteristic of thecultivation practices adopted by the Han's family and described in this manualare as follows.There were regional characteristics about the sellecting of breeds planted,the relation of seeding and plowing, the elimination of weeds, and so on.Drawing a conclusion, the method of rice farming in this area were differentfrom the ones preferred in other regions, as preferable plants were selected forcultivation considering the weather conditions and the soil status of thearea.
