초록
- Sustainable forest management(SFM) became a major issue in the field of forestry recent years. SFM represents that forests should be managed as maintaining ecological soundness, while fulfilling the needs of public services from the people and economic rewards for the community surrounding.
The Korean government manages the forests by way of launching projects of thinning, planting, and establishing infrastructures, such as forest roads, for the management of forest, while protecting forest resources from the fire. Five major projects - planting, thinning, forest road construction, forest soil conservation, forest fire prevention- occupying 80% of total forest project budget, were monitored.
In order to acquire unbiased results, 16 specialized experts and 4 project related government officials were included for this research project.
The results of this project showed that:
1) after planting, 5 to 7 years of maintaining planted areas are required in order for successful establishments
2) for the thinning, electronic design systems should be established for tracing the completion of the projects
3) user's manual for designing forest road and related facilities should be established
4) integrated forest fire suppression systems should be established for the efficient forest fire suppression.
