The focus of the workshop was to analyze the economic, environmentaland social impacts of organic agriculture in relation to conventional farmingsystem. In the OECD countries, market forces largely derive the development ofthe organic sector but a number of countries, mostly in EU, offer financialincentives to farmers to convert to, and continue in, organic production on thebasis that some environmental benefits are not captured in the market.
